Claus Offe

    is a German sociologist, political scientist and philosopher based in Berlin. In the late 1960s he worked with Jürgen Habermas at the Institute for Social Studies of the Goethe University, focusing on the sociological and political aspects of Habermas’s philosophy. In 2005 he was appointed Professor of political sociology at Humboldt University in Berlin. He is one of the founders of the Basic Income European Network, a network of academics and activists interested in the idea of a universal basic income, i.e. a guaranteed minimum income based solely on citizenship and not on work requirement or charity. He is currently Professor Emeritus at the Hertie School of Governance in Berlin.
