is a political scientist and philosopher based in Bratislava. As one of the first signatories of Charter 77 and a leading dissident he was imprisoned under communism. After 1989 he served as Chancellor of the Comenius University in Bratislava, co-founded the Slovak Helsinki Committee, the Milan Šimečka Foundation and chaired Slovakia’s UNESCO Human Rights Committee. His many publications include, most recently, What are we to do with our Hungarians? and On the Wavelength of Free Europe.
