Wendy Luers

    is a U.S. philanthropist based in New York. She is the founder and president of the New York Foundation for a Civil Society. She has worked as correspondent for the journal Vanity Fair and has served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA. As the wife of a US Ambassador she spent several years in communist Czechoslovakia, providing significant support for a civic society deprived of freedom. In January 1998 she was the first woman to receive the Order of the White Double Cross from Slovakia’s President Michal Kováč.
