is a Czech journalist based in Prague. He studied journalism and law at the Charles University in Prague. Before graduating he worked for the weekly Mladý svět;
in 1995 he joined the weekly Respekt, becoming its editor-in-chief in January 2003. In April 2005 he became the chief columnist for the daily Hospodářské noviny and in August 2009 he started editing Orientace, a supplement to the daily Lidové noviny. In 2004 he was awarded the prestigious Ferdinand Peroutka Prize; he is also the recipient of the Citibank Excellence in Journalism Award for the best 1999 article on the economy; in 2001 he received the Open Society Fund Journalism Award for an interview with Václav Havel.
